Committed Volunteers: The “Great Wave” Volunteer Program
More than half of Great Lakes Credit Union employees volunteer annually with the GLCU Foundation’s “Great Wave” program, providing invaluable support to local nonprofits. We believe in prioritizing volunteerism and give all full-time employees up to 8 hours off annually to volunteer.

In 2025, through a robust program of outreach initiatives, the GLCU Foundation made a meaningful impact, empowering our local communities and solidifying its reputation as a pillar of the community. With more than 4,800 community outreach hours completed, this remarkable achievement was made possible thanks to the invaluable support and collaboration of our steadfast partners. GLCU partnered with 152 community organizations to provide financial resources, volunteers, and education to our communities including United Way Lake County, Northern Illinois Food Bank, HOPE Food Distribution, COOL Ministries Food Bank, and Bernie’s Book Bank to name a few.
